MY FIRST LOVES

I have been thinking back on how I got involved in British Sports cars and how through my ownership it has affected myself and the lives of the future custodians of these cars. Hopefully they have left them with big smiles on their faces and a lasting good impression and memory for the rest of their lives. I know they have for me!

Back in the summer of 1968 I started to date my first love, Valerie (her father really didn't want me too) but I continued to date anyway. In the summer of 1969 I was looking for a car and believe it or not, Valerie's father told me about a neighbor that had a 1966 MG Midget. I took my dad to see the car. The car turned out to be in blood red with a black interior with white piping on the seats, it had a broken rear spring but other than that it looked pretty good, so I bought it for $600. This car also turned out to be a first love for all British Sports cars! I replaced that broken rear spring and put an 8 track tape player and speakers in it and spent that summer driving with Valerie with the top down (it got her hooked too). The Midget was the start of my major passion that I found in these simple but fantastic sports cars.

Since that first British car I can't remember when I haven't had one to drive. My wife, yes you guessed it, Valerie, was also a supporter of my passion. It seems like if it wasn't broken I couldn't afford it, so through the years I dragged home what people considered more junk, I would then proceed to spend money, a little at a time, to bing the cars back to being presentable drivers. I would like to think that through my ownership a few more of these classics have survived to be enjoyed by others. I am sure that some of them would have long been junked if I hadn't save them. The way I look at it, we really don't own them; we are just their caretaker's until someone else takes over that duty. We need to drive and have some fun with them! We need to enjoy the people who have the same love for them and also need to keep them on the road for future people to find the enjoyment that we are having!

DRIVE AND ENJOY THEM! THEY DON'T NEED TO BE PERFECT TO SHOW THEM OFF, ENTER THEM INTO CAR SHOWS! PEOPLE WILL ENJOY WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER!
